Wowhead ephemeral crystal4/5/2023 You can truly see that it's not the game that lacks depth, it's the modern culture of "optimize your recreation time" that encourage people to get every tool or information before hand through wowhead/icyveins/fatboss and the likes to not waste any second learning things by themselves. It is your experience afterall and I really hate when people try to push their influenced agenda on me like: asuming my route is bad because it doesnt have dratnos stapled on it without even looking or that your raid markers are on the WRONG PLACE for a boss fight with a million ways to position things, tons of weak auras for every raid encounter with no idea how to create a custom one of their your own, and the list goes on. I found the game to be much more enjoyable when you don't get everything completely digested and ready to smash. I have the same feeling as you, but I found a way to enjoy the math aspect of the game, i see simulations/weak auras and etc as tools for myself, I completely avoid "WoW influencers" video guides, custom UIs/WA and routes made by other people, etc. It would probably take a huge developer effort to put these things in place, but it's this line of thinking that Blizzard should strive for.Īs pratically everyone said: it's a comunnity problem. That much is true with all recent games and those soon to come out. Community and Player Agency is a modern philosophy when it comes to MMO design. the Mage Tower) - which would then lead to questlines and progression rewards depending on what content the community unlocks. As well as community effort systems that change the in-game world (something like the Broken Shore effort where people would turn in resources to build a certain tower for the week, i.e. I can imagine environment interactions being coded in. However, for the sake of discussion, I'll riff some ideas off of the top of my head. People keep asking me for ideas but again, I'm not a game dev, I'm just posing a discussion point, there's no need to get personal. I don't mean to offend anyone, it's just how the game feels to me right now and it's felt this way since around Legion. 'World of simcraft' is starting to make a lot more sense. Perhaps my perspectives have just shifted along with the community and I'm pretty sure the concept of the 'meta' game has severely influenced these feelings. It's just a box that requires me to do seemingly chore-like content to make sure the numbers surrounding my box are high enough for me to do anything of value. Also, a point to note my character no longer feels like a 'character' or an 'avatar'. I still love the game visuals and the lore but I can get all that without even logging in. If you don't have the information, you're left behind. It feels like a glorified problem solver with the all work having been done for you. It just doesn't feel like a game anymore. I no longer have to figure out boss fights or cave locations because I'm required to watch videos, read articles and sim my character before doing anything progression related. This game feels like a maths equation instead of a game of exploration and wonder. Somehow, even with how amazing the game looks, sounds and physically feels. I've played this game for 15 years since I was a small child and it took Shadowlands for me to quit. I'm writing this somewhat hastily as I have to head out, but I wanted to share my thoughts on the game as a whole after seeing the subscriber numbers have gone down by almost half.
